btn_viewmy_160x331Want to add one of these cool looking buttons to your email signature in Outlook? Instead of the usual “Please visit my LinkedIn profile at http://www.xyb.sllls”? Well, you can. Go ahead. Click on the badge. I dare you (smile). Now, If you can make this work by doing it the way LinkedIn says to do it, please let me know how you managed that phenomenal feat (smile). A friend helped me to do it with my signature several months ago. It was a lot of cutting and pasting and “saving as”. Today, one of my clients asked me how to do it. I tried and tried and got pretty far but could not quite make it to that last step. So, I googled for solutions and found this site which I now share with you (smile). “How to put your LinkedIn Badge on Outlook”.

I have tested these instructions and they do work. FYI…adding a badge may work with other email programs but it will not work with gmail. And, working with another program may require a different set of gyrations (smile). Have fun!

With so much “stuff” available on the Internet, finding what you are looking for and, even then, having to sift through all of it just to get to what you were really wanting to find, can be both an adventure and most time consuming.

Lets talk about finding things on this site in general and then moving up to the really big picture………the web.

This Site: WordPress has several built in methods for you to navigate this site and they are all found on the sidebar to your right. You can go to different pages which I have titled “Learn More About Us”. WordPress also uses search terms called categories and tags. I did not like those terms and, for that matter, didn’t even know what a tag was, so I renamed those “Search By Topic” and “Search By Keyword”. I see subjects as being main topics of interest and keywords being sub-topics within this particular subject field. Finally, there is also a search box where you can type in whatever word you want and WordPress will look for blog posts or pages that contain that word. And, on all searches, you will likely get multiple results (posts and/or pages). You can search for words on a page using Firefox’s find command found under the edit tab on the top right of your browser. I also learned something about what bloggers call the tag cloud………….. caveman_wheel_shadowsWhy re-invent the wheel when there is so much stuff out there that can help you make your day go easier? And, especially if it’s free! If it’s free it’s for me……I’ll take three (smile). Below are a few of my favorite free tools:

  1. I like LinkedIn. What I also like is the LinkedIn toolbar for Outlook. They also make one for Firefox but it does not seem to work half the time. And, the toolbar for Outlook does so much more than just provide you with a portal to your account or let you know who is and is not on LinkedIn and provide you with a way to invite them. It also has a feature called “Grab” which allows you to highlight the signature line of any incoming email and have it automatically create a contact record for you in Outlook. Very cool. It will also look at your incoming emails and sent mail etc. and create or update contact information in Outlook. Of course, it also watches out for connection opportunities. Load the toolbar and go to the dashboard and you will see some other neat things. (more…)
