Be on LinkedIn Reason #1 – Your Silent Salesman

If for no other reason, you need to be on LinkedIn for………..you. If you don’t want to be connected to others…. that’s o.k..  Not interested in linking up with those outside of your immediate network? That’s o.k. too. We’ll talk more in future posts about the myriad of ways that LinkedIn can help increase your revenues but, for now, just being on it is a good enough start.

Think of LinkedIn as your resume, and your company’s resume, that can be viewed by literally millions. That’s really what it is. People who see it can get a pretty good idea of who you are and what you do. And they can do that 24 hours a day and without you even having to be involved in that process. You earned that diploma, now show it off! (smile) As an example, right now someone or some company is planning to move to Boise. They need to set up shop and they need a variety of services and they know……………nobody. But they do know LinkedIn. Through the site, they are able to search for: real estate, phones, banking, insurance, anything. And, they find ………you (smile).  And to make that this happen, all you need to do is follow these 3 easy steps:

  1. Go to LinkedIn and set up a free account
  2. Completely fill out your profile and regularly update it
  3. Establish a public profile and make it fully visible. This public profile creates a url that can be cut and pasted into anything. It can also feature your name if you tell it to. Otherwise, LinkedIn will assign it a random series of letters and numbers

That’s it. You’re done! Heck, you might already even show up in a google search (smile). You have one more step to go and then we are going to call this good………… provide a link to your profile in all things electronic or on paper:

  1. In the signature line of your outgoing emails
  2. On your website
  3. Your business cards and letterhead
  4. Written correspondence

It can be as simple as “Please visit my profile at www.imthegreatest.linkedin.com” (smile). Or, if you use Outlook, you can even have one of those cute little LinkedIn icons appear in your signature line instead of the entire site address. It might work with other email programs but, if you have gmail, I can tell you that it does not. For instructions on creating this icon and other ideas, please click on this link for “Personal Branding Tips For LinkedIn“.

Have fun!
